Altona Police Service was off to an early start this past weekend. Chief Perry Batchelor says around 9 a.m. Saturday morning, officers responded to a residential break, enter and theft in Altona. As a result, Batchelor adds a 19 year old male, who stole a variety of prescription medication, was arrested and charged with break, enter and theft and uttering threats.

Meanwhile, later that day at around 3 p.m. officers responded to a 911 call of a theft in progress at Sunset Diner in Plum Coulee. Batchelor says the individual stole a couple of bottles of alcohol and fled to an awaiting car in the parking lot and drove off. He adds the situation worsened when the store manager chased the suspect and damaged his hand on the windshield of the awaiting car. Batchelor says through the co-operation of the Winkler Police Service a 15 year old youth was later arrested and charged with theft under.

Batchelor reminds citizens to not chase after those conducting criminal activity, and says police need them to be the best witnesses they can be.

Batchelor says if you witness criminal activity officers can be reached either through 911 or 324-5353.
