Don Wiebe was back on the Morning Show Thursday with another Reeve on the Radio. He joined Chris Sumner to chat about a number of topics, including news the Town of Altona and Municipality of Rhineland have come to an agreement regarding a shared Emergency Coordinator.

"For some time, Altona and Rhineland have been in dialogue about and cooperating on an emergency response plan," explained Wiebe. "At our last council meeting, Rhineland council approved a joint services agreement. Rhineland has been without an emergency coordinator for several years, and during this time our C.A.O. was acting as our Emergency Coordinator. After the Spring flooding in 2022, we realized the workload of being both was overwhelming, stressful and not sustainable."

Wiebe noted it was out of that experience it was decided a new approach was needed.

"This agreement means the two municipalities will share an Emergency Coordinator, and in case of an emergency as such when both municipalities are involved, a second Emergency Coordinator can be engaged," he said. "For Rhineland, this means the Emergency Coordinator will be working with our Emergency Organization Committee."

Perry Batchelor has been appointed to the role, and will start January 1st, 2024. He was hired as Altona's Emergency Coordinator in Summer 2022.

The Reeve also chatted about the upcoming Association of Manitoba Municipalities annual meeting in Brandon, as well as project updates regarding the new Plum Coulee Fire Hall, Gretna Arena and Flood 2023 claims.
