Heading in to May Long weekend, Winkler Fire Department was called twice for separate incidents involving a vehicle fire and a gooseneck trailer.

Thursday evening around 7:30 p.m., firefighters were called to a vehicle fire on Norquay Drive. Chief Richard Paetzold says the van was fully involved when they arrived, and the damage was extensive. No structures were impacted by the flames, and there were no injuries in the incident. The cause remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, Friday afternoon just before 2:45 p.m. the department was called out to Highway 14 for a reported gooseneck trailer tire fire. The location was just west of the Highway 14 and 15th Street corner. Paetzold says a tire on the trailer had caught fire, and when crews arrived it had been reduced to just smoking.

"We cooled everything down, ensured extinguishment, and then escorted the truck and trailer to a nearby parking lot where it could be unloaded and hauled away," said the Chief.

The trailer axel assembly was damaged by the flames, and there were no injuries.
