It’s day two of the Provincial A, AA & AAA High School Varsity Volleyball Championships. Miller girls finished the round with an 0-3 record at the AAA championships in Dauphin. The Aces lost to Stonewall, Sanford and Balmoral Hall. The Sabres also beat Stonewall and lost to Balmoral Hall. Northlands Parkway boys defeated Linden Christian & Niverville and lost to Louis Riel. Garden Valley boys fell to Neelin. The AA girls championship is in Lac du Bonnet & Whitemouth. Rosenort girls defeated Major Pratt of Russell and lost to Hapnot Collegiate of Flin Flon. St. Paul's lost to Gabrielle Roy of Ile des Chenes and Major Pratt. The AA boys championship is in Ile des Chenes. Rosenort defeated Hapnot and Morris lost to Landmark. The Provincial A boys championship is in Fisher River. Elm Creek beat Glenboro and Frontier Mosakahiken.


Ben Dalke and Fraser Mirlees scored two goals each in the Carman Beavers 6-1 victory over the Morden Bombers in the lone SEMHL game Thursday nght. AJ Nychuk and Scott Atkins also scored for the Beavers. Noah Skorpad chipped in with three assists. Carman netminder Luke Zacharias made 46 saves. Andrew Clark scored for the hometown Bombers. 


The Winnipeg Jets gave up three third period goals and fell 3-1 to the Edmonton Oilers at Canada Life Centre. Cole Perfetti had the lone goal for the Jets who have lost three in a row for the second time this season. Leon Draisaitl scored the go-ahead goal on the power play for the Oilers with 2:13 remaining in the third period. Ryan McLeod sealed the deal with an empty netter with 20 seconds left. Edmonton has won four straight games. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced the signings of American quarterback Terry Wilson Jr., American receivers Bryce Mitchell and Ontaria Wilson, American defensive end Nate Givhan, and American defensive tackle Jamal Woods. The club also signed the following national players (draft choices) who previously returned to school, and they include defensive tackle Collin Kornelson (Manitoba); running back Jonathan Rosery (Alberta); defensive back Bret MacDougall (Windsor) and linebacker Max Charbonneau (Ottawa).


The Winnipeg Goldeyes are welcoming back a cornerstone piece to the 2024 roster with the signing of reigning American Association Rookie Position Player of the Year Dayson Croes. Croes hit .351, good for fourth in the league, led the league with 135 hits, and had 67 RBIs. The Fish begin the 2024 season on the road versus the Cleburne Railroaders on Thursday, May 9th. Winnipeg's home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21st against the Chicago Dogs at Blue Cross Park.
