Golf Manitoba’s Provincial Match Play qualifier takes place today at the Glendale Golf & Country Club in Winnipeg. 108 competitors including Ryan Orchard, Samuel Sullivan, Keira Krahn and India Young of Carman are vying for a spot in the brackets of 32 men, eight women and 32 senior men. The Provincial Match Play Championships will take place June 1st to 4th also at Glendale.


The Pembina Valley Orioles scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 10-7 victory over the Winnipeg South Wolves at Charleswood Park. Darius Peters had three hits and scored a pair of runs while Jason Penner had four rbi for the Orioles. Pembina Valley and Altona will both play doubleheaders on Sunday. The Orioles face the Interlake Blue Jays at Arctic Field in Winkler. The Bisons meet the Carillon Sultans in Steinbach.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes gave up five runs in the seventh inning and lost 8-4 to the Sioux Falls Canaries. Winnipeg third baseman Dayson Croes extended his hitting streak to ten games with a first inning single. Max Murphy had a solo home run for the Fish.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers play their preseason opener today (3 p.m.) against the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium. Quarterback Zach Collaros, receivers Nic Demski and Kenny Lawler and defensive lineman Willie Jefferson are all on the game day roster. Defensive lineman Anthony Bennett, who was selected in the first round (eighth overall) in the 2023 CFL Draft will be making his Bombers debut.


Canada faces Latvia in the semifinals (6:20 a.m.) at the 2023 World Hockey Championship in Tampere, Finland. Canada defeated Latvia 6-0 in their preliminary round opener. The United States will meet Germany in the other semifinal.
