The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will hold their final practice session today at Tim Hortons Field. The Bombers face the Montreal Alouettes Sunday in the 110th Grey Cup in Hamilton.


The A & AA high school varsity volleyball provincial qualifiers take place today. Elm Creek and Dufferin Christian are at the A girls qualifier in Pilot Mound. Elm Creek is hosting an A boys qualifier. St. Paul’s of Elie are at the AA girls qualifier in Ile des Chenes. Rosenort is at the AA girls qualifier in Warren. Miami and the host Redhawks are at the AA boys qualifier in Rosenort. Morris is at the AA boys qualifier in Landmark.


Jayce Legaarden scored four times and Trent Penner had three assists in the Winkler Flyers 7-2 victory over the Winnipeg Blues at the Centennial Arena. Kobey Edwards, Brody Beauchemin and Dalton Andrew also scored for the Flyers. Winkler’s Malachi Klassen made 20 saves.


Pembina Valley lost 6-1 to the defending Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League champion St. James Canucks. Riley Goertzen had the lone goal for the Twisters.


Pembina Valley gave up three third period goals and fell 4-2 to the Southwest Cougars in Souris. Spencer Sabourin and Ben Dias did the goal scoring for the Hawks who lead 2-0 with four minutes left in the second period.


Sophia Cox and Emma Durand did the goal scoring for Pembina Valley in the Hawks 3-2 loss to the Interlake Lightning in Stonewall.


Gavin Rondeau scored his second goal of the game with 3:57 left in the third period and that was the go-ahead marker as the Mountain Mustangs edged the Miller Aces 4-3 in Notre Dame in the lone Zone 4 High School Hockey League game. Brett Lesage and Matthias Chevalier also scored for the Mustangs. Tyson Froese, Kumera Kauenhofen and Eli Bergman replied for the Aces.


The Warren Mercs downed the Altona Maroons 8-1. The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League leading Mercs improved to 5-0 while the Maroons fell to 0-5.


The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-2 at Westoba Place. Jayden Wiens, Luke Shipley, Nate Danielson, Brett Hyland and Dominik Petr did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings who lead 5-0 early in the third period.


Cole Perfetti extended his goal streak to five games and Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves as the Winnipeg Jets edged the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 at Canada Life Centre. Mason Appleton and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Jets who wrap up their five-game homestand tonight against the Arizona Coyotes.


Thomas Milic made 26 saves as the Manitoba Moose shaded the Belleville Senators 3-2 and snapped their five-game losing skid. Nikita Chibrikov, C.J. Suess and Wyatt Bongiovanni did the goal scoring for the Moose.
