The Winkler Flyers have clinched a playoff spot at the 2024 Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario. Malachi Klassen stopped all 24 shots he faced as the Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions shutout the host Blades 4-0 Monday night. Dalton Andrew and James Richards scored in the second period for the Flyers. Avery Anderson and Nicolas McKee sealed the deal with empty net goals late in the third. The Flyers have moved into first place in Group B with seven points. Winkler will clinch at the very least second place with a regulation win in their final preliminary round game tonight (6:30 p.m.) against the Miramichi Timberwolves. The Maritime Junior Hockey League champions have six points with one game left. The Melfort Mustangs have five points and two games remaining. 


Canada will face Austria today (1:20 p.m.)  at the 2024 World Men's Hockey Championship in Prague. Team Canada has a 2-0 preliminary round record after defeating Great Britain 4-2 and Denmark 5-1. Connor Bedard is the first 18-year-old to score four goals in his first two World Men's Hockey Championship games since Sidney Crosby in 2006.


Maddie Rooney made 18 saves to post the shutout as Minnesota blanked Toronto 2-0 and kept their Professional Women's Hockey League season alive. Maggie Flaherty and Denisa Krizova did the goal scoring for Minnesota who cut Toronto's lead in the best-of-five semifinal to two games to one. Game four goes Wednesday in Saint Paul.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes picked up their first win of the 2024 American Association season Monday night in Texas. Dayson Croes had four hits and Gio Brusa had three hits including a two-run homer as Winnipeg blanked Cleburne 16-0. Travis Seabrooke along with relievers Ryder Yakel and Brady Schanuel combined on a one-hit shutout. The Fish, who are 1-4, will wrap up their season opening six-game series with the Railroaders today at 11 a.m.


It's day three of Winnipeg Blue Bombers main camp. Today's practice session is from 8:30 a.m.-11:35 a.m. The Blue Bombers first pre-season game is Monday, May 20th in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
