The Zone 4 High School Track & Field Championships begin today at 2 p.m. at Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler with 200 metre heats, junior varsity girls long jump, and junior varsity boys shot put. The top three finishers per event plus others that meet the provincial standard will automatically be entered for Provincial competition in Winnipeg from June 6th-8th.


Matheus Ruffini and Corny Siemens did the goal scoring in the Winkler Storm's 2-2 draw with Grant Park SC Monday night in Winnipeg. The Storm, who have one win, one loss and one tie in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 1st Division, will host AK ACADEMY Sunday at the Winkler Recreation Complex. 


Sam O'Reilly had a goal and an assist to lead the London Knights past the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 at the Memorial Cup in Saginaw, Michigan. Ruslan Gazizov, Sam Dickinson, Landon Sim and Kasper Halttunen also scored for the Ontario Hockey League champions who improved to 2-0 in the round robin. The Knights will face the host Saginaw Spirit (2-0) on Wednesday. The winner will earn a bye to the championship game. Ethan Sememiuk scored twice for the Western Hockey League champions who are winless in two games. Martin Rysavy and Dominion City's Denton Mateychuk also scored for the Warriors who play their final round robin game tonight (6:30 p.m.) against the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League champion Drummondville Voltigeurs (0-2) at the Dow Event Centre. The loser will be eliminated while the winner advances to the semifinal against either the Knights or Spirit on Friday. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes begin a three-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks tonight at Newman Outdoor Field. The Fish (7-9) are in fourth place and trail the West Division leading Redhawks by 3.5 games. Winnipeg outfielder Adam Hall has been transferred to the Milwaukee Brewers. Hall becomes the first member of the Goldeyes to move to a Major League organization since fellow Canadian Will McAffer in January 2023, and the 87th in club history. The 25-year-old hit .526 in six games with Winnipeg, with three doubles, one home run, two runs batted in, and seven runs scored.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released American receiver Kody Case and American defensive lineman Rick D'Abreu from their training camp roster. The Blue Bombers play their final pre-season game Friday at home against the Calgary Stampeders.
