Sexually transmitted infections are on the rise in rural Manitoba and that has health officials worried.

Dr. Shelly Buchan is Medical Officer of Health for the central region.

She says the number of cases of syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV continues to grow in the region.

Dr. Buchan says its forcing health officials to re-evaluate their prevention strategies.

80% of the STD's diagnosed in central region are found in the 15 to 24 age group.
