It's no secret it's been a wet Spring, with accumulating rainfall every few days, and that's having an impact how quickly a couple of Winkler infrastructure projects are progressing.

Winkler Mayor henry Siemens pointed to two of the most noticeable areas of work in the City right now, the North Railway Avenue reconstruction effort and the Mountain Avenue sewer project.

"Persistent rain over the last several weeks has slowed both of them down, but we are pleased to say Mountain sewer is about 40% complete, and if the weather continues to hold, we should be done well before Harvest Festival," said Siemens for In the Mayor's Chair on CFAM Radio 950. "North Railway, we were so excited a number of weeks ago that we could maybe turn this thing around in five weeks. We've had lots of rain. It's very wet. It's about 35% complete now, and if the rain holds off, we hope to be able to finish that within the next several weeks."

Meanwhile, for the hundreds of commuters and area residents that drive along Highway 14 on any given day, when you look to the south, you see a big field that's currently filled with earth works. That has to do with a very significant drainage project the City has undertaken.

"As ICON continues to grow, we're going to move some drainage, and whenever you move drainage, there's a fair amount of water," explained the Mayor. "Most of Winkler's water, when we have rain or melts, flows through that area, so we have to channel that and move it in order to square off that land."

Siemens noted that is a lot of work to do, and for those who have driven by, there's a lot of work happening on site at this point in time.

"The drainage (work) is about 80% complete," he said. "Once we've got that done, we're also going to punch the road right through to Highway 14 for one more connection into our industrial park."
