Logan Speers scored twice and Janessa Nelson recorded the clean sheet as the Morden U17 Eagles defeated BoniVital 4-0 in the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association's Recreational Division. Kaydence Wiens and Rylee Thiessen had the other Eagles' goal.


Jonathan David scored off a brilliant passing play in the 74th minute and goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau was flawless as Canada defeated Peru 1-0 in a Copa America match in Kansas City. David's goal ended the national team's 391-minute scoreless streak. Peru played the final 30 minutes a man short as Miguel Araujo was given a red card. Top-seeded Argentina leads Group A with a 2-0 record, followed by Canada at 1-1. Chile and Peru both have a tie and a loss. The top two teams in Group A advance. Canada will play its final group stage match against Chile on Saturday in Orlando.


The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Dylan DeMelo to a four-year contract extension. The deal is worth just under five million dollars a season. The 31-year-old had a career-high 31 points and 28 assists last season and led the team with a plus-46 rating.


Shea Weber, Pavel Datsyuk, Jeremy Roenick and former U.S. National team players Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame November 11th in Toronto. The class of 2024 also includes builders Colin Campbell and David Poile.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes dropped a 12-6 decision to the Chicago Dogs at Impact Field. The Fish plated four runs in the top of the second, but the Dogs scored six times in the bottom of the inning and then tacked on three more runs in the third. Roby Enríquez had three hits and Ramón Bramasco drove in a pair of runs for the Goldeyes. 


The Manitoba High School's Athletic Association announced its 2023-24 Athletes of the Year Tuesday at Sport Manitoba in downtown Winnipeg. Sydney Burak of Arborg Collegiate and Sam Gurke of Alonsa School are the A Athletes of the Year. AA winners are Maria Gundrum of Prairie Mountain and Lachlan Cuthbert of Lac du Bonnet. AAA recipients are Ivy Bestland of Sanford Collegiate and Elijah Falade of St. Boniface Diocesan High School. The AAAA winners and overall Athletes of the Year are Danika Nell and Owen Weekes of Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg.
