The Winkler Community Foundation is welcoming local charities and non-profits to apply for a total of just over $40,000 in available grants this year.

Nearly $25,000 will be disbursed through the Community Fund for general community funds. $7,996 is available for medical equipment through the Dr. CW Wiebe Medical Fund. Almost $3,200 for sports development and equipment, thanks to the 2014 Sport Legacy Fund, and another $4,160 from the Darlene Peters Health Fund, designated for health-related programs, projects & education.

Additional grants by Designated Funds, Donor Advised Funds & Agency Funds will also be awarded through the Winkler Community Foundation. These are awarded based on donor/fund holder wishes and are not directly applied for.

Each year the foundation accepts grant applications from local charities for designated projects and programs.

In selecting recipients, the Foundation looks for projects that demonstrate things like accessibility and inclusiveness, innovative approaches and techniques to solve community issues, strengthen an organization’s capacity to be sustainable, encourage more efficient use of community resources, and projects that address the root causes of issues in our society.

The grant application deadline is April 15th.
