A group of investors from the Winkler area are hoping some federal funding will help move their biodiesel project forward.

Heartland Biodiesel will receive $264,000 to research a new process in the production of biodiesel using locally produced vegetable oil.

Project Spokesman Gary Wiebe says their process has better cold flow properties compared to the traditional methyl ester process.

Wiebe says an exact location for their proposed plant will depend on where they can best source the raw product they will need.

Wiebe says their plan is to establish a pilot project that would produce about a million gallons in order to test the biodiesel in the market place.

He says they'd like to see that in place in about 2 years.
