Last evening, the Winkler Storm played Hanover in Steinbach in Manitoba Major Soccer League Premier Division II action and came away with a 2-1 win. The Storm are now 3-3-2 on the season.  They started out rather slowly, giving up about 60% of the ball possession in the first half.  Fortunately, the chances on goal were about equal, and neither team was able to capitalize.

They came out much stronger in the second half, and the speed and intensity of their play wore Hanover down.  At 5 minutes into the second half, David Duerksen dropped a pass onto the foot of Reinaldo Oliveira, who slotted it back to the net.

They controlled much of the play after that, although Storm keeper, Ben Plett, was forced to make some excellent saves.  With 10 minutes left in the game,  Oliveira released a through ball to Nico Nickel who made no mistake.  Hanover rallied to score just before time was called.

This Saturday, They Storm play Ital-Inter in their first MSA Cup match.
