Manitoba's Agriculture Minister is shocked the federal government has placed a virtual gag order on the Canadian Wheat Board.

It was made public this week the feds have instructed the Board to no longer spend any money towards advertising, publishing, or market research which supports the single desk.

Rosann Wowchuk says it's wrong for the federal government to restrict the ability of the C.W.B. to do its work on behalf of growers.

She adds the board is there to work in the best interests of farmers, and if it decides to spend producer money it should be allowed to do so.

Earlier this week the provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba reaffirmed their support for the C.W.B., and say it must be up to producers to decide the future of the agency.
