Kindergarten registration for the 2024/25 school year opens Friday in the Western School Division and all the details about the process will be shared at public information meeting tonight. It all kicks off at 7 p.m. at Maple Leaf Elementary School.
"It will be an opportunity for parents of kindergartners upcoming for September 2024, kids that are turning five. They can come out and listen to information about how to register, some information about the different schools, meet some senior administrators and also principals of the schools. So, it's a good opportunity to get any information or ask any questions about what kindergarten is all about in Western School Division," explained Cindy Dick, Principal of Maple Leaf Elementary.
"The evening is just basically information about what it looks like in kindergarten," added Dick. "They're able to do a tour of a kindergarten classroom at Maple Leaf Elementary School just to give them a little vision of what a room looks like. The teachers will talk a little bit about what a day in the life of kindergarten is like, so they get to listen to a teacher talk about what that's like and what their child will experience and all the other services and extra supports that Western School Division offers."
With Ecole Discovery Trails School set to open for the next school year, updated catchment information will also be shared at the meeting.
According to Dick, there is much excitement around the school's opening.
"We are bursting at the seams, all of our schools. We are very, very full. Space is a premium. Having another school so that we can spread out and have more place to learn. So yes, we're very excited."
Paper copies of the registration forms will be available at the meeting, but registrations can also be submitted online on the Division's website. A copy of the students' birth certificate will be required.
