The GVC Zodiacs lost their home opener 5-3 last night to Carman as they kicked off the 2010/11 Zone 4 High School Hockey League season. The Cougars, who beat Portage Collegiate 5-2 in their home opener on Wednesday, were the better team to start the game as they had built up a 5-1 lead midway through the second period. The Zodiacs did come on near the end of the second and into the third but their come back fell just short.

Brandon Friesen, Arnold Krahn, and Cole Smith scored the Zodiac goals while Cody Wall had a pair of assists.

Josh Pfrimmer scored a pair for Carman. Jordan Cameron, Jordan Hintz, and Colby Hennan added singles.

Lucas Wiens got the start in goal for GVC and was relieved by Adam Wiebe early in the second period. Wiens made nine saves on 13 shots while Wiebe allowed just a single goal on the 13 shots that he faced.

Nathan Yeo made 22 saves on 25 shots earning the win for Carman.
