Winkler Police Service recently arrested a 16-year-old for impaired driving.

On June 27, police conducted a traffic stop and upon speaking with the driver noted the odour of liquor on his breath.

The 16-year-old driver complied to the demand for a breath sample, which resulted in a 'Fail' reading. He was arrested for Driving While Impaired and Failing to Comply with an Undertaking, as he was under a condition to abstain from the consumption of alcohol.

He was transported to the Winkler Police Service where he provided two additional breath samples resulting in readings of 130 mg% and 120 mg%. His driver’s licence was suspended for three months, his vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and he was later released on an Undertaking to his mother.

Meanwhile, police say they had another impaired driving incident early the next morning.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on June 28, police were on patrol and observed a two-vehicle accident.

Upon speaking with the driver of one of the vehicles, police noted him to be highly intoxicated and he was subsequently arrested for Driving While Impaired. He was transported to the Winkler Police Service where he provided two breath samples resulting in readings of 290 mg% and 270 mg%.

His driver’s licence was suspended for three months, his vehicle was impounded for 240 days due to a prior occurrence of vehicle impoundment within the past five years, and he was later released on an Undertaking to a sober friend.
