Manitoba Clean Environment Commission is holding public hearings in Friedensfeld this week to discuss the proposal.

The proposal comes from the Pembina Valley Water Co-op.

Chief Executive Officer Sam Schellenberg says if approved they could have the pipeline in place within one year.

Terry Sargeant is chair of the commission. He refused to comment on the proceedings thus far but says he's surprised by Tuesday's large turnout.

About 75 people were present for the morning session.

The co-op was given opportunity yesterday morning to outline its plan.

The commission and Manitoba Eco-Network then questioned the proposal.

Day 2 of the hearings are Thursday.
