A proposal to pipe groundwater from Sandilands to Morris is getting a lot of attention these days.

Manitoba Clean Environment Commission is holding public hearings in Friedensfeld today and Thursday to discuss the proposal.

It comes from the Pembina Valley Water Co-op.

Chief Executive Officer Sam Schellenberg says if approved they could have the pipeline in place within one year.

Terry Sargeant is chair of the commission.

He refused to comment on the proceedings thus far but says he's surprised by today's large turnout.

About seventy-five people were present for this morning's session.

The Co-op was given opportunity this morning to outline its plan.

The commission and Manitoba Eco-Network have since questioned the proposal.

Tonight, municipalities and communities west of Morris will get their say on the matter.
