The Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Program for the cattle sector has concluded its 5 year mandate.

The objective of the program was to increase awarenesss and encourage adoption of management practices that decrease greenhouse gas emissions on farm.

Project co-ordinator Pat Walker feels the goals of the program were attained.

She says cattlemen were sceptical about the program initially, but that attitude changed as it was shown most mitigation practices could improve a producer's bottom line.

Walker notes the new Conservative government has comitted an additional year of funding to the program.

She adds priorities are now being set by the Canadian Cattlemen's Association.

The Program's final report to the cattle sector has been submitted to the Association, and can be found on its website.
