Foster parents are getting a raise.

The Manitoba government has released a 6.1 million dollar strategy to provide more support for foster parents -- included in the plan is a rate increase.

The plan also includes a recruitment campaign but Janet Shindle of Central Child and Family Services, says the region faces a need for specific foster parents, particularly for teenagers and children with high special needs.

Still, Shindle applauds the plan because she feels it'll help retain their current base of foster parents.  She stresses experience in fostering is critical.

Over 40 million dollars was pledged by the Manitoba government two weeks ago to improve the child welfare system.
