The Manitoba Clean Environment Commission is looking for input into a proposed water pipeline.

The Pembina Valley Water Cooperative wants to pipe water from Sandilands to Morris as a back-up water supply.

This week public hearings will be held in Friedensfeld.

Patrick Watson, manager of the Seine Rat River Conservation District says their board will be making a presentation about the impact on Steinbach and surrounding areas.

They also want assurances there will be no negative effects on the region.

Watson says his board has members both for and against the pipeline.

Overall they are not opposed to the project, but want to stress the pipeline be used only as a supplementary water source.

To achieve this, the board would like to see some controls established that might limit pumping to four months each year, or cap the flow at a certain volume.
