"It helps parents to recognize their strengths", Nobody's Perfect parenting classes take place at Regional Connections

Nobody's Perfect is a program for parents of children, from infancy to age five, at Regional Connections. Iris Tsui is the HIPPY Coordinator at Regional Connections (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters). Though participants may differ in age or cultural background, all parents who participate in Nobody's Perfect want what is the best for their children and want to be good parents. 

“Nobody's Perfect does not teach one 'right' way to parent. It helps parents to recognize their strengths and to find positive ways to raise healthy, happy children.” 

Tsui explains that no one is born knowing how to be a parent. All parents need information and support. Being part of a supportive group can help parents to recognize their strengths and understand their needs. Through participation in Nobody's Perfect, parents learn about and seek out other resources and support in the community.

“They also get to know and trust other parents and begin to build support networks that strengthen individuals and communities. I believe it brings positive results on building community together.” 

Nobody's Perfect is a comprehensive program with materials designed to support parents. All the program activities are designed based on five basic, easy-to-read books: Behavior, Body, Safety, Mind and Parents. These books provide parents with information and help them develop effective ways to cope with the stresses and difficult situations they face as parents.  

“For example, how to encourage cooperative behavior, how to keep a child healthy and how to help a child develop through play. The pictures in the books help to depict key messages, even if literacy level is low.” 

Nobody's Perfect classes take place annually in Winkler (February) and Morden (April). The program is running in Altona for the month of May. For sign up Nobody's Perfect, parents can email Iris Tsui at iris@regionalconnections.ca.
