Director of Officiating at Pembina Valley Minor Hockey Association, Jayden Wiebe, joined the Morning Show to talk about his recent experience being on the ice at the Telus Cup Regionals in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Wild hosted the event this year, featuring four teams with the winner of the tournament advancing to the 2024 TELUS Cup Under-18 Club Championship. Wiebe talked about how he got involved.

"There's twelve officials picked,12 referees and 12 linesmen. They get picked and you go through two to three months of supervision to get looked at and selected down to a six-man roster. So I was fortunate enough to be selected"

Having worked many U18 games in Morden, Wiebe commented on the differences he saw in the two games he officiated.

"They were both very straightforward, very simple games. The kids are all trying to win their get to the championship. So there's not a lot of funny business going on out there. They're working hard and it's just it's fast-paced hockey. It's a lot of fun."

Meanwhile, in the PVMHA there is always a demand for more officials. Wiebe commented on the search for more refs.

"It's something that's hard to come by every year and it's getting harder and harder. So we go out throughout the offseason and at the beginning of the season trying to get officials. It doesn't matter your age if you're willing to come out and give everyone a hand so we can keep hockey going in the.
