Winnipeg based Prairie Orchard Farms is continuing to move ahead with its expansion into the United States.
The company has received approval from the U.S.D.A. to market its naturally enriched Omega 3 pork under its Verdanica Farms trademark.
President Willy Hoffmann is south of the border this week meeting with potential retailers.
He adds response has been excellent so far, noting his product is viewed as a niche market because it's different than the organic and natural pork currently available.
Hoffmann stresses functional foods are new to U.S. retailers.
He says it's difficult to estimate how much Omega-3 enriched pork they will sell south of the border.
He stresses the key right now is establishing the brand.
