The 26th Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Banquet took place Saturday night with a full house of 375 in attendance at the Access Event Centre in Morden which is the home of the Hall of Fame. Nine individuals were inducted including Ryan Boguski, Eleanor Callow, Stuart Gilman, Chris Hofer, Derrick Mudge, Ollie Schroeder, Derek Shamray, Ken Sharpe and Bryan Swaenpoel. Four teams were added to the Hall, and they included the 1965-1970 Kinosota Cougars; Manitoba’s 1977 silver medal winning Summer Games team, the 2010 Manitoba Junior Baseball League All-Stars who captured gold at the Nationals in Quebec and the 1990 Oil Dome All-Stars who won gold at the Western Canadian Bantam Championship in Carman. Ross & Carole Tycoles and their sons Aaron & Rory and daughter Amy were inducted into the Family Category of the Hall of Fame. Joe Wiwchar and Glennis Scott were recognized with Honorary Life Memberships.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 2-0 on their nine-game homestand. The Fish plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning en route to a 7-1 victory over the Sioux City Explorers at Blue Cross Park. Andy Armstrong had three hits and drove in three runs each for Winnipeg.


Golf Manitoba’s Provincial Junior Boys & Girls U15 Championship, City & District Championship and All Abilities Championship wrapped up Saturday at the John Blumberg golf course. Ryder St. Laurent of Niakwa earned a five-shot victory over Hunter Oakden of Glendale. Jewel Lafleche of Niakwa finished 12 strokes ahead of Maisy Shewchuk of Winnipeg. Charmaine Hayden of Breezy Bend is a four-time winner of the Women’s City & District Championship. Hayden finished one shot ahead of Hannah Diamond of St. Charles. Keira Krahn and India Young of Carman finished five and six shots back respectively. Kristian Hammerback of Southwood won the gross division of the All-Abilities Championship by one shot over Kyle Miller of Calgary.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added American running back/returner Chris Smith and American defensive lineman Ali Fayad to the practice roster and transferred American defensive linemen Celistin Haba and Miles Fox to the six-game injured list. The 0-2 Bombers host the B.C. Lions on Friday night.


The 46th Manitoba Marathon begins Sunday at 7 a.m. on the campus of the University of Manitoba in South Winnipeg. The Father's Day tradition will host the Canadian Half Marathon Championships for the final year.
