The Altona Bisons and Pembina Valley Orioles both lost road games Wednesday night. Altona fell 13-3 to the Winnipeg South Wolves at Charlesood Park. Pembina Valley gave up six runs in the second inning and dropped a 9-2 decision to the Interlake Blue Jays at Quarry Park in Stonewall. The Orioles own a 4-8 record at the midway point of the 2024 Manitoba Junior Baseball League season. The Bisons are in the cellar with a 1-9 record. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes were held to just four hits and lost 5-2 to the Kane County Cougars. Dayson Croes and Max Murphy had two hits each and scored a run for the Fish who have the day off. Winnipeg will begin a nine-game homestand this weekend when they face the Sioux Falls Canaries on Friday at Blue Cross Park. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the RedBlacks tonight (6:30 p.m.) in Ottawa. Running back Brady Oliveira, who ran for 38 yards in the Bombers season opening 27-12 loss to the Montreal Alouettes last Thursday, is not on Winnipeg's roster. Last year's leading rusher suffered a knee injury in the home-opener against the Grey Cup champions and is on the one-game injured list. Johnny Augustine will get the start at running back. Wide receiver Kenny Lawler broke his arm in week one and has been placed on the six-game injured list. Lawler’s spot will be taken by Keric Wheatfall. Linebacker Adam Bighill will make his season debut tonight. Former Blue Bombers back-up quarterback Dru Brown, who signed a free agent contract with Ottawa in the off-season, will get the start for the RedBlacks. Ottawa had the bye in week one. 


The Manitoba Moose have hired Morgan Klimchuk as an assistant coach under head coach Mark Morrison. Klimchuk, 29, spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the WHL’s Victoria Royals. The club posted a 29-30-5-4 mark during the 2023-24 regular season, earning a post-season berth. Prior to his stint in Victoria, Klimchuk was an assistant coach for the Edge School U15 program. During his playing career, the Regina product totalled 133 points (62G, 71A) in 274 AHL contests split between the Abbotsford Heat, Stockton Heat, Toronto Marlies and Belleville Senators. Klimchuk also appeared in one NHL game with the Calgary Flames. Prior to turning pro, he posted 267 points (118G, 149A) in 261 WHL games split between the Regina Pats and Brandon Wheat Kings.
