The Winnipeg Blue Bombers three-day rookie camp begins today at IG Field. The first practice session begins at 10:30 a.m. Four Winnipeg Rifles - wide receiver Mekhi Tyrell and defensive backs Joseph Funk-Clements, Brandon Kamenz and Keyshawn Gaskin were invited to rookie camp. Main camp starts Sunday. The Blue Bombers first pre-season game is Saturday, May 27th against the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium. 

The Winnipeg Goldeyes wrapped up their pre-season schedule on Tuesday in Franklin, Wisconsin. The Fish and Milwaukee Milkmen played a pair of seven inning games. Winnipeg won the opener 2-0. Milwaukee took the second game 5-0. The Goldeyes open the 2023 American Association season tomorrow night against the SouthShore RailCats in Gary. 

The Manitoba Moose have reassigned forward Tyler Boland to the ECHL's Newfoundland Growlers. Boland, 26, appeared in 44 contests for Manitoba during the 2022-23 season while recording 19 points (9G, 10A) and a plus-three rating. He also suited up in one playoff contest. The forward has 57 AHL games under his belt and posted 20 points (9G, 11A), all with Manitoba. Over his ECHL career with Newfoundland, Boland has compiled 37 points (20G, 17A) in 30 regular season games and tallied 25 points (16G, 9A) in 19 playoff contests.

Winnipeg Ice forward Matthew Savoie has been named Western Hockey League Player of the Week. The Buffalo Sabres prospect recorded five points (1G-4A) over his two outings this past week, helping the Ice secure a spot in the 2023 WHL Championship Series. The product of St. Albert, Alta. began his week with a three-point effort Tuesday, May 2 at Saskatoon, scoring once and adding two assists as Winnipeg posted a 5-1 victory in Game 3 of Eastern Conference final. The following evening, the 19-year-old collected two assists as the Ice completed a four-game sweep of the Blades with a 3-2 victory. In 14 post-season appearances this spring, the 5-foot-10, 176-pound forward has collected a team-leading 27 points (11G-16A); he begins the week third among WHL playoff scoring leaders. The Ice face the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday night at Canada Life Centre in game one of the WHL championship series.
