Renovations and accessibility upgrades are nearly complete on 10 suites at The Manor at Gardens on Tenth in Altona. The project to add things like wider doorways, walk-in showers and raised toilets got underway earlier this year.

According to a news release, tenants who have already moved into the refurbished units are very pleased with their newer updated look, but more importantly, they talk about the safety and accessibility provided within them.

This leaves 8 suites to renovate in 2024.

So far, $340,000 has been raised for the project and the Board says it looks forward to additional support this year and into 2024 to help it achieve its $500,000 goal.

Recently, donations have come in from outside of the community.

Roy and Gladys Abrams from Victoria presented a donation of $10,000, Gerald Loeppky from Winnipeg stopped by a donation of $5,000.

"These donors have or have had family who lived in The Manor at one time. They heard about our project, came for a tour and liked what they saw!" noted the news release.

The Board says it is grateful for all of the support it has received and looks forward to completing the project and enhancing the services it can provide for seniors in our community and area.

"Together we can do more!"
