The Altona and District Chamber of Commerce paid tribute to its 2006 Citizen of the Year last night.

Dr. Ken Kliewer was honored with the award for his 32 years of dedicated service as a family doctor in the community.

Kliewer called it a special moment, but felt he needed to single out the support from his wife.

Dr. Kliewer was named Manitoba's Family Physician of the Year in 2006 by the Manitoba College of Family Physicians.

He also serves as a clinical teacher for the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Medicine where he is an assistant professor.

The chamber also honored Alyssa Epp with the 2006 Youth Recognition award for her work with children who have learning disabilities.

Donovan Bergman was presented with the Volunteer Recognition award for his involvement in helping single parent families and providing mentorship to young needy children in the community.

The chamber also recognized a number of companies and organizations that are marking milestones in serving the community.

They included Golden West Broadcasting, Friesens Corporation, Sun Valley Co-op, Rhineland Car and the Altona Curling Club.
