Altona’s Gallery in the Park (GITP) is getting ready for the first of three Summer Music Nights, with evening number one next Wednesday, July 3rd. Held outdoor on the patio space amongst the sculpture garden and grounds, it’s a beautiful setting for a concert.

"Two summers ago we had some artists come and do a singing among the statues night on the patio, and that's something we wanted to bring back this summer," said Events Coordinator Renae Friesen. "We have a beautiful space, and we want to use it as much as we can, and we also want to have something where local people can showcase their talent. So what better place to do that?"

The first Summer Music Night will feature Calllum Morrison performing solo, mother and daughter duo Nya Dubyk and Nicole Peters accompanied by Curt Friesen and wrapping up the evening will be the father-daughter duo of Paul and Sara Krahn. Tickets are available at the gate, and the Schwartz House will be open throughout the evening, so people can also enjoy the latest installation at the gallery.

"For the concert, we're going to be using the patio," noted Friesen. "We've got the beautiful pergola with the lights out there, and all the planters set up, so anybody that wants to come and check out the music, we'll be set up on the patio surrounding the pergola."

There will be two additional Summer Music Nights at GITP. Wednesday, July 24th will feature Altona's very own opera singer Nolan Kehler along with his fiance Joanna Loepp Thiessen. Thursday, August 15th past Made in Manitoba guests Warren Friesen and Brett Schultz will be joined by Joe Curtis.

"I'm looking forward to people coming and seeing the space, both indoors and out, especially people that maybe don't get a chance to come out and see these things," said Friesen. "The reason we have these on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the summer is so people can still enjoy their summer weekends at the camper, cabin, cottage, wherever they go, and this gives them something to do during the week. I'm just excited to see other people's excitement when they see our beautiful space."
