It's a tradition that has brought families together in downtown Altona for years, and Friday evening (November 24th) Altona's Night of Lights kick-off to Christmas returns to the Civic Centre parking lot and Altona Mall.

"This is an exciting time for the Town and the Recreation Department," explained Recreation Programmer Brittany Winkler. "It's a kick-off to the holiday season for us, and for the town, and it's just a free, fun event."

All of your favourites are back, including the horse drawn sleigh rides, the wiener roast in fire pits set up on the Civic Centre parking lot courtesy Sun Valley Co-op, Christmas music played by CFAM Radio 950 as well as free hot chocolate and cookies in the Altona Mall after the lights are turned on from Altona IGA and Subway.

There is something new this year, and you'll need to look up to see it... fireworks presented by Elmer's Manufacturing!

"You will be able to see them from the Mall parking lot, and the Civic Centre parking lot where the event is being held," she noted.

The fireworks will be set off at 7 p.m., just after Altona Mayor Harv Schroeder turns on the community's lights to welcome to season.

See you Friday night at Altona's Night of Lights!
