A proposal to draw water from the Sandilands to the Pembina Valley goes before the Clean Environment Commission this week.

The Pembina Valley Water Co-op is spearheading the plan in an effort to drought proof the region.


Rick Martel of Altona says the region needs to secure another source of water during years when the Red River gets too low.


Water Co-op Co-Chair Herm Martens says they intend to tap into a relatively small amount of water from the vast amount that exists in the aquifer.


The CEC hearings begin tomorrow in Friedensfeld and wrap up on Thursday.
