As the summer sun begins to shine, the Menzies Medical Center Community Board is gearing up for its annual BBQ fundraiser. Executive Director Nicole Walske, joined the morning show to share details about the upcoming event.

"We're very excited that summer is seemingly here and we're planning our second BBQ fundraiser lunch on Wednesday, June 12th," said Walske. "Last year was a great success. People were glad to sit, visit, and be with one another. This year seems to have gotten bigger and better."

The BBQ will take place from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at Morden Suncatch Plaza, offering free hot dogs, chips, drinks, and dessert. The event is supported by several local businesses, including Winkler Meats, Winkler Morden Co-op, and Giant Tiger. "We are super excited to have some sponsors on board with us," Walske noted, adding a special mention for Alex Kanski from Moment in Thyme for providing desserts.

The BBQ also serves as a platform to raise awareness and funds for the Menzies Medical Center Community Board, which is crucial for purchasing equipment, furnishings, and aiding in the recruitment and retention of physicians. "Our Community Board is responsible for ensuring our facility remains current with the best equipment possible," Walske explained.

With Morden’s continuous growth, the role of the Community Board becomes ever more significant. "Our communities are not going to stop growing, which is fantastic, but obviously the need on our medical system is being taxed exponentially right now," Walske remarked, urging the community to stay patient and hopeful.

The event promises to be a wonderful opportunity for residents to come together, enjoy good food, and support a vital cause. "We hope the sun is shining and we can just enjoy being outside because that always brings people together," Walske said.
