Paddlefest at Lake Minnewasta in Morden has become a celebrated annual event, bringing people together to enjoy a day filled with water activities. This year, families and enthusiasts filled the beach to make the most of the beautiful weather and paddling options.

"My kids are really excited, they love paddle boards and kayaking. We came last year, it was a blast... It's one of the things that we look forward to every year. I love the opportunity to try out all the different kinds of paddle boards and stuff for free. It gives us an idea of what we like and what we can invest in, in the future," said attendee Lorraine Holinski.

The festival, organized partly by the Manitoba Paddling Association and the local paddle club, showcased different options, including kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, and dragon boats.

"We've had great success bringing our dragon boats, people always enjoy it... We want people to learn about the boats, and learn about the sports that are available in the province," said Sacha Skirza, Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre Representative.

The atmosphere was energetic, with children playing along the beach and families enjoying the sun. Participants had the chance to try out different types of boats and learn about the sports associated with them. The event also featured dragon boats for groups to use, adding an element of excitement.

"I think it's a great way to bring people out to the nature that we have so close to home. It's really relaxing being on the lake, and I think it's just a nice way to get out," said Brooklyn Wolf, recreation program leader for the City of Morden.

Wolf emphasized thanks to the collaborative efforts with the Manitoba Paddling Association. The event was not only a fun outing but also highlighted the paddle club and promoted outdoor activities and water sports.

For the community, Paddlefest is more than just a day of fun on the water. It's a way to bring people together, creating a sense of community and encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle. The positive turnout and enthusiastic participation highlighted the event's success; many people expressed how much they enjoyed spending the day outside and trying new activities.
