Trent Penner had two goals and an assist in the Winkler Flyers 6-2 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders Sunday at the Centennial Arena. Tanner George, Avery Anderson, Brody Beauchemin and Zach Nicolas also scored for the Flyers who trailed 2-1 until Nicolas potted a power play goal 11 minutes into the second period. Winkler's Malachi Klassen stopped 17 of the 19 shots he faced. 


Canada West lost its preliminary round opener 4-2 to Sweden at the 2023 World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia. Logan Sawyer and Nathan Free of the Brooks Bandits did the goal scoring for Canada West who will face Canada East tonight. 


The Pembina Valley Twisters scored four times on the power play en route to a 6-2 victory over the St. Boniface Riels at the Southdale Arena. Alex Van Deynze had hat trick for the Twisters while singles went to Derek Wiebe, Merek Degraeve and Kyle Van Deynze.


The Pembina Valley Hawks lost 7-0 to the Eastman Selects in Landmark. Vayha Willis got the start in net for the Hawks and stopped 30 of the 37 shots she faced. Kasia Rakowski played the final eight minutes and made nine saves. 


Its day two of Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp in Oakville, Ontario. 30 players are at camp including Moose Jaw Warriors defenseman Denton Mateychuk of Dominion City, Wenatchee Wild forward Conor Geekie of Strathclair and Brandon Wheat Kings captain Nate Danielson.


The Winnipeg Jets erased a 2-0 third period deficit with four unanswered goals and beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2. Gabriel Vilardi gave Winnipeg a 3-2 lead with 1:42 remaining and Mark Scheifele scored into an empty net with 29 seconds left. Nino Niederreiter and Morgan Barron also scored for the Jets who have won four in a row. Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves. Winnipeg forward Kyle Connor left the game 27 seconds into the second period with a lower-body injury following a knee-on-knee collision with Ducks forward Ryan Strome, who was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct. The Jets are 2-0 on their four-game road trip which continues Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks. 


Kristian Reichel scored twice and Brad Lambert potted the overtime winner as the Manitoba Moose shaded the Calgary Wranglers 4-3. Jeffrey Viel also scored for Manitoba.
