Dayna Wahl of Altona will meet Shaela Hayward of Carman at 11 a.m. in the B event at the 2023 Provincial Junior Curling Championships in Portage. Wahl lost 7-6 to Zoey Tarrick of the Heather and then outscored Tansy Tober of Fort Garry 7-6. Hayward beat Rylie Buchalter of the Heather 9-2. Cheyenne Ehnes of Pembina lost 12-4 to Katy Lukowich of the Granite in the A event semifinals. Lukowich will take on Terrick at 3:30 p.m. and that winner advances to this weekend's page playoff. The loser will drop to the B event final. Zach Norris of the Morris curling club is 0-2 after losing 9-8 in an extra end to Luke Robins of West St. Paul and 7-5 to Jace Freeman of Virden. Norris will face Aaron Van Ryssel of Springfield at 11a.m. Defending champion Jordon McDonald of Deer Lodge, with Winkler's Reece Hamm throwing third stones, won his opener 11-2 over Ronan Peterson of the Heather. McDonald's next game is at 11 a.m. against Hunter Dundas of Brandon.


Logan Dearborn had a goal and two assists and Logan Mazinke stopped all 22 shots he faced as the Morris Mavericks shutdown Northlands Parkway 4-0. Seth Laroche, Hayden Peters and Awstin Suwala also scored for the hometown Mavs who are tied with the Miller Aces for fourth place in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League. Both teams have 25 points. The Morden Thunder are in first place with 29 points and Portage Collegiate is next with 26. Tonight the Thunder host the Carman Cougars and the defending champion Trojans meet the Garden Valley Zodiacs in Portage.


The Winkler Flyers dropped a 4-3 decision to the Portage Terriers at the Centennial Arena. Matt Wisener had a goal and an assist for the Terriers who lead 1-0 after the first period and 4-1 after 40 minutes. Trent Sambrook and Brody Beauchemin scored third period power play goals to cut Portage's lead to 4-3 but the Flyers couldn't get the equalizer past Terriers netminder Bailey Monteith. Dalton Andrew had the other Winkler goal. Malachi Klassen stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced in net for the Flyers. 


The Pembina Valley Hawks lost 3-1 to the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League Winnipeg Bruins at the Southdale Arena. Sebastien Hicks scored the lone goal for the Hawks 55 seconds into the first period. 


Carson Lambos scored twice and Zach Benson and Connor McClennon each had a goal and three helpers as the Winnipeg Ice defeated the Raiders 8-1 in Prince Albert. Carson Latimer, Conor Geekie, Easton Armstrong and Ty Nash also scored for the visitors. 


The Manitoba Moose gave up three first period goals and lost 6-2 to the Chicago Wolves at Canada Life Centre. Leon Gawanke and Brayden Burke did the goal scoring for the Moose.
