There are three candidates vying for the Conservative nomination in Emerson Constituency.

34 year old Emerson area farmer John Stephens officially announced his candidacy yesterday.

He says his experience and knowledge as a grain and cattle producer would make him a voice for agriculture.

Stephens notes that infrastructure renewal in southern Manitoba must be a priority if communities are to survive.

Stephens admits the person who replaces Jack Penner as MLA will have big shoes to fill.

He says however, Penner and Provencher MP Vic Toews have encouraged him to step forward.

Stephens is up against Larry Tetrault of Labroquerie, and Cliff Graydon of Woodmore.
