Police advise caution after aggressive flower selling reported in Winkler
On August 20th, Winkler police officers received a report about a female confronting members of the public to sell flowers. Witnesses described the woman’s behaviour as aggressive. Once located, she was advised that she required a City of Winkler business licence and was told to cease her activity. Police Chief Ryan Hunt said the department has dealt with similar situations in the past. “Generally, she's at the larger stores… and she'll walk up to somebody, hand them a flower, but then really pressure them to pay her for the flower.” Hunt noted this particular individual was not local. “She had an address in Scarborough, Ontario. So, it's not like this is a local person that's just trying to do a service to the community or anything.” For those who may find themselves in a similar situation, Hunt advised avoiding confrontation. “Distance yourself from the person and just don't get into it… just walk away and try to get to a space where it's safe.” The incident was resolved without further issue.
