Patching of Winkler roads approaches the finish line as the season comes to an end
Winkler has had a busy season of paving and patching across the city, with projects still in progress as summer comes to an end. Mayor Henry Siemens said the scope of this year’s work has been fairly significant this time around. “We bit off a really big chunk this year. We did lots of street patching and renewing, and fixing. With the amount of work that we get, it's taken us a little bit longer than anticipated at times, and I think it behooves us to thank the Community for their patience as we finish towards the end of it.” Related stories: Winkler Mayor says pathway great example of doing more together than alone Road 7 West concrete box culvert in Rhineland must be replaced Assistant City Manager Wendy Klassen noted that the city brought in contractors for the summer roadwork, but there were some challenges along the way. “They had some logistical issues that delayed some of their patching, and so we are currently actively working with them to get the patch jobs done.” Siemens said city staff are putting in extra effort to ensure everything gets wrapped up. “We see them working overtime and into the evenings. Now they're really working hard to get it done.” He added that he’s excited to see what the community will look like once the work is completed. - with files from Chris Sumner -
